Forme Shortcuts

How to Read This Tutorial

While there are no shortcuts in life, there certainly are shortcuts in Forme to help you work as efficiently as possible with the platform tools.

In cases where a shortcut uses a key that has unique names on Mac and Windows keyboards, the Mac key is listed first, followed by a /, and then the Windows key is listed.

Doc Editor

The Doc Editor is where screenplays and novels take shape.

Interface

• Show / Hide Outliner: ⌘/Ctrl + 1
• Additional interface controls available in the Settings menu

Editing

• Undo: ⌘/Ctrl + Z
• Redo: ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + Z
• Find / Replace (cursor must be in document): ⌘/Ctrl + F

Formatting & Styling

Applies to highlighted text:

• Bold: ⌘/Ctrl + B
• Italics: ⌘/Ctrl + I
• Underline: ⌘/Ctrl + U
• Strikethrough: ⌘/Ctrl + ~
• Boneyard / Comment: ⌘/Ctrl + /
• Note: ⌘/Ctrl + N
• Toggle Text Case (UPPERCASE / lowercase): ⌥/Alt + U

Structure & Layout

• Section Header: ⌘/Ctrl + 3
• Synopsis: ⌘/Ctrl + 4
• Slugline / Chapter Title: ⌘/Ctrl + 5
• Numbered List: ⌥/Alt + 1
• Bulleted List: ⌥/Alt + 2
• Text Align Center: ⌘/Ctrl + ⌥/Alt + C
• Text Align Right: ⌘/Ctrl + ⌥/Alt + R
• Indent Line: Tab
• Outdent Line: Shift + Tab
• Page Break: ⌘/Ctrl + Enter

Scene Header Hints for Screenplays

Tab/Enter

• Tab and Enter both accept autocomplete suggestions in the same way
• At the start of a line, type IN or EX to trigger Scene Qualifier suggestions (INT., EXT., etc.)
• Tab/Enter accepts a Scene Qualifier, triggering Location suggestions (must exist in document)
• Tab/Enter accepts a Location, triggering Time of Day suggestions (DAY, NIGHT, etc.)
• Tab/Enter accepts a Time of Day to finish autocompleting a scene header (or slugline)
